What is the 12 steps?

The Twelve Steps themselves are the essence of any 12 step program. They are the directions meant to provide members a path to lasting freedom from addictions and associated behaviors. Twelve-Step meetings are considered the "fellowship" part of the 12 step mutual support groups, where people come together and share their experience, strength, and hope. Many members of 12-step recovery programs have found that these steps were not merely a way to overcome addictions and associated behaviors, but they became a guide toward a new way of life.
